If you're aggressive, your dog will be too
According to a recent study year-long study by the University of Pennsylvania dog owners who use confrontational or aversive methods to train aggressive pets will have animals that will continue to be aggressive unless training techniques are modified.
The study also showed that using non-aversive or neutral training methods such as additional exercise or rewards elicited very few aggressive responses.
"Nationwide, the No. 1 reason why dog owners take their pet to a veterinary behaviorist is to manage aggressive behavior," Meghan E. Herron, lead author of the study, said. "Our study demonstrated that many confrontational training methods, whether staring down dogs, striking them or intimidating them with physical manipulation does little to correct improper behavior and can elicit aggressive responses."
You can read more about this study on the Bio Medicine Website.MY TAKE: I think this is a little obvious? I guess you do need a study to back it up, but if you are physical to your dog, of course they'll become aggressive much like a person would.

Is second-hand smoke harmful to your pet?
We all know that second hand is harmful to others, but is it harmful to pets?
Of course it is, but what diseases are linked to it? Cats exposed to second-hand smoke are twice as likely to develop feline lymphoma and dogs are also very susceptible to smoking-related respiratory problems and nasal and sinus cancers

Product claims to clean up muddy pet paws
Your lying on the couch, watching TV, and all of the sudden you see a product claiming to clean up muddy pet paws. Now, if you're anything like me you think "Man, I wonder if it works?" and you Google it for reviews. See, I'm too cheap to instantly order, I have to know if it really works.
The Paw Plunger is what I'm talking about and it's basically a plastic jug with a circle of bristles inside. Supposedly the water doesn't go everywhere. You lift your dogs paw and put it in the contraption. Have you tried this? Does it work? I've heard mixed reviews, and with spring coming I'd love to find out if it's worth it!

Dog Beds: Finding the Right Bed for Your Snoozin’ Pooch
Dog beds today are about much more than just a simple cushion or a mat. As dog owners always want the best for their pet, a lot of manufacturers have responded to these demands and a result we’re seeing a lot of beds that offer innovative designs and luxurious comfort. In this article, we’re going to go ahead and take a look a few popular trends we’re been noticing in the dog bed industry.
Heated Orthopedic Beds
Heated pet beds have been around for a while, and have proven to be especially popular during the winter months, when owners put a premium on keeping their pup warm. But these beds are a great fit year-round for older dogs who suffer from arthritis and other joint problems, so manufacturers like K & H Pet Products have taken an extra step using orthopedic memory foam as the filling material for their heated beds. While these beds are usually a bit more expensive, their ability to alleviate joint and muscle pain makes these beds more than worth the investment.
Another reason these beds have been more popular is that most manufacturers have been able to make these beds safer. In the past, most dog owners have shied away from owning these types of beds because of the risk of having an electrical cord near a chew-happy puppy. But most beds now come with insulated, chew-proof cords so heated bed nowadays are safe as well as comfortable.
“Green” Pet Beds
Until very recently, there weren’t a whole lot of comfortable options out there for environmentally-conscious owners when it came to pet beds. Some companies have been making beds with recycled wood chips as the filling cushion, but there weren’t too many options for owners who wanted an earth-friendly bed that would have the same cushiony feel as other pet beds.
But recently several companies, most notably Big Shrimpy and West Paw Designs, have been using a technology that uses recycled materials to create polyester filling fibers. This type of material creates a cushion that is remarkably similar to other types of cushions, although it has more of a firm feel to it. As an added bonus, these beds usually do not cost as much as other beds (and in some cases are actually less expensive) so you won’t have to spend much “green” either.
Furniture-Style Beds
For many owners, their pet is a part of the family, so when it comes to their sleeping arrangements they want their pooch to sleep in a real piece of furniture rather than a mat or a cushion. As a result, luxury pet sofas, cribs, and loungers have become the trendy item to have, even if they do cost more than other beds. These beds also usually come with furniture-grade cushion filling so they also provide the best in comfort as well.
Furniture beds are available in a multitude of styles, from rustic and antique to sleek, contemporary designs.
Dog beds surely aren’t for every pet; some would rather sleep in bed with the owner while others are content with lying on the floor. But if you would rather have your pooch have its own place to sleep, you can both sleep well knowing that there are pet beds out there to fit all styles and needs.

New cancer drug for dogs coming soon?
Clinical trials are underway in the United States for Paccal Vet which could become the nation’s first government-approved drug for treating canine mast cell tumors. Vets around the Nation are frusterated with the current drugs available for treating cancer in dogs, because most of the stuff that they use is for humans. It's important to have medication for dogs.
Two clinical trials that were based in Europe for this product have shown encouraging results according to insiders. The FDA has taken note, and with any chance this drug could be available within two years. There are currently 12 private veterinary clinics in 10 states and six universities participating in the trial.
Let's keep our fingers crossed as almost half of all dogs over the age of 10 years die from cancer-related diseases, and around one in four dogs will develop some form of tumor during its lifetime.
